Alex and Ian were best friends at Cornell University. After college, Alex started the farm in 2003
on ten acres of rented land, and with one tractor purchased from a local farmer. In 2005, Ian, who is originally from
Michigan, came out to work on the farm for a season, and enjoy the Hamptons. Although Ian grew up on a horse farm
in michigan, he quickly took to vegetable farming. Realizing that the business was on hte verge of something special,
Ian officially joined the business two years later. Balsam Farms has since been expanding rapidly,
even when our biggest supporters said this could not be accomplished. Alex and Ian are very proud of what they have
created, and hope you enjoy the fruits of their labor.

- To provide fresh, unique, delicious, and healthy produce to the local community.
- To be excellent stewards of the fields we farm.
- To manage a profitable agricultural
business, and provide a great work environment.
- To keep our community's rural heritage
alive for the next generation.
- To make ourselves, and our customers, happy.

Alex founded the business in 2003 on ten acres of land rented from the Peconic Land Trust. Ian
joined the farm in 2005, and the business's partners have since been agressively growing and improving their
operation. Each new season is exciting for Balsam Farms, as we look to continue building on our past successes.
